An interview with Kelti Malone
Q: What message do you wish to convey in your songs?
Kelti: A few of the songs I write are more whimsical and speak of love and simple stories that seek to paint a picture in the mind of the listener. But the majority of my music is focused on the gospel of Jesus. Through my songs I wish to convey the message that God “so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” .)
Q: What gives you inspiration for writing music?
Kelti: The majority of my inspiration comes from reading the Bible. I love taking the Scripture and simply putting it to song. That is one of my favourite things when writing a new song. I simply open the Bible and take what God has already written and put it to melody.
Q: What advice would you give to future young singer songwriters?
Kelti: It takes a lot of hard work to pursue a musical career, so don’t expect things to come easily, but also don’t be discouraged. There are a lot of opportunities and by applying yourself and working hard, you can really take advantage of what is out there for the independent musician.
Kelti’s music possesses distinctive style and smooth vocals which sets her apart from other musicians. In 2007 Kelti entered four of her original songs into the Shine FM Cross Canada Talent Search Songwriting Competition. Of the 250 entries, all four of Kelti’s songs made the top thirty. Following the competition, she finished her first album, which has made its debut on iTunes, CDBaby and radio stations across Canada. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Alberta.
Be sure to keep your eye on this talented young singer/songwriter as she continues to produce beautiful compositions, truly delighting the listener of all ages. Come out to The Olive Branch to meet Kelti and be sure not to miss her in concert at the Community B.B.Q. on August 31st at Hairsine Park.
